How do you guys feel about the idea to let local validators start translations for projects (for an existing language) instead of requesting translations be open on the P2?
For example: If I’m an administrator of the bg.wordpress.org site I’d love to be able to create translations for projects in bulgarian instead of writing a request and hoping @nacin or any of the .org guys see it and open a translation. (I actually have no idea who takes care of opening translations now).
Any thoughts?
We would need that for plugins. In Spain we are like… everything is in Spanish, so if any client or anyone finds something in English, they freak out. It would be a great thing.
Yesterday they said that it can be a reality for late 2014, but if we could add new projects as plugins and themes that, it would be awesome.
Regarding the existing WP projects, we asked for a global administrator who can add local validators to any projects. I don’t know how this works exactly, because I’m not the one, but I think that you can ask Zé about that.
Do we scan “dead” languages too? “Khmer (Cambodian Language)” looks dead.
Yes. the indication is either that no xx.wordpress.org exists, or said xx doesn’t have a current-ish translation at http://i18n.svn.wordpress.org/ (see under xx/tags for the latest versions translated)
Supported locale codes are on GlotPress, at http://glotpress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/trunk/locales/locales.php
Codex:
Starting at http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_in_Your_Language we need to list which (Codex) pages are out of date and which information can go on the handbook (see the link below)
How can you see if a page is out of date?
Read it 🙂
Outdated:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Files_For_Direct_Translation

http://codex.wordpress.org/Localized_Package_for_Windows_Web_App_Gallery (I think things have changed – I will check with Microsoft Japan rep)
Need to edit this page post 3.7 release

Looks ok (I think):

http://codex.wordpress.org/I18n_for_WordPress_Developers
I’d like to take care of the Teams Currently Forming page, are you guys all working as translators for your locales? Could you add your .org username and the language you take care of here so I could add you to the page?
bi0xid – es_ES
The German Validators are
ocean90
zodiac1978
coachbirgit
and i`am swissky
For both formal and informal versions?
For Both the Same People
The Swiss German Guys are:
swissspidy
swissky
I don’t know who the Dutch validators are right now. I guess Remkus and Ruben. Maybe Me (chantalcoolsma) and Marcel (mbootsman) can be added too.
Besides this we also have Matthieu and Niels as moderators. If the rest agrees it would be good to add the both of you to the team.
Moderators for the forums?
yes, those two are moderators of the forum. An overview of the moderators for the translation can be found on the contribution page within your NL_nl local installation.
Great, I’ll add you guys as the Dutch Localization Team and if you want to change the page later and add a leader, add more team members and contact information, that’d be great.
Dutch Team information is up to date: http://codex.wordpress.org/L10n:Localization_Teams#Dutch
dyrer – el_GR
ja validators (.org usernames)
mako09
Nao
odyssey
tai
takayukister
tenpura
thee17 – en_CA
I will scan L10n:Localization_Teams for dead links and remove them. Maybe we should take a decision about Localization Teams running on their own domain. I guess they should use xx.wordpress.org as a localization team site. Any ideas?
I’d definitely add a page to the xx.wordpress.org to at least explain about translation and encourage ppl to join in.
We have a section on the Dutch support forums http://nl.forums.wordpress.org/forum/vertaling-wordpress-nl
Would be a great addition if other languages did the same.
I look at the translation page diligently translate what teams and include this team and website to WordPress_in_Your_Language added
Note to self/all: what’s up with the locale forums?
The spanish one is working http://es.forums.wordpress.org/ =)
“working” may be a stretch. Its’ still bbPress 0.9 I think
That needs an update 🙂
It’s 1.1. And yes, latest is 2.4. Is there anything that we can do here?
ping @nacin lol
Torsten is now moderator. An admin and more moderators can be added pending a green light from the German community
Back online in the train! Free Wifi in trains FTW! 🙂
Thx Zé! I will put a sticky on the forums about the “real” forum…
Perfect, now you can write a Sticky Post to the wpde.org Forum
He already did that in the forum. I will have also an eye on that forum to help users to find the right resources.
So you want to go with two rails?
Good question!
FR forum is redirecting to wordpress.org, because they have an own forum (like de has with wpde.org).
Do we want close the forum completely? Or just make it Read-only?
We could let it open and I will have a look from time to time …
Hi Zé, I would also like to have admin access to this forum.
me too, please 😉
I am just the moderator. It would be great if you will be the admin for this.
Ok, I’m getting a little confused (#wceu hang-over? I think so 🙂 ). Could I have a list of Admins and Moderators for de? Please make sure that the de community is in agreement about this.
Hello Zé, I think it makes sense, when you set Robert and me to admin access, because we are both editor for deploying the wp releases.
Agreed!
And please remove mastermind as an admin, as he is not active anymore.
Additionally please remove User irrsinnde as a validator, as he is not active anymore (last reply is 5 years ago)
validators can be removed on de.wordpress.org/wp-admin directly
If you are an admin, I think? As I am just a moderator I couldn’t do this. But with the new admins (@coachbirgit and @nullbyte) we can handle this on ourself in the future.
I´ve done this at this moment.
You’re not helping! (consider my age…). I need a list of .org usernames and roles on the polyglots P2, please.
Ok 🙂
For de.forums.wordpress.org:
coachbirgit -> admin -> pls add
nullbyte -> admin -> pls add
zodiac1978 -> moderator -> already done
mastermind -> admin -> remove
irrsinnde -> moderator -> remove
Thank you very much!
what about alchymyth?
Seems to be still active (last reply 4 months ago), but I don’t know him. I will contact him in the next days!
The rest is done
Great. Thank you, Zé. WordCamp Europe was a huge motivation for all of the team here. Thanks again! 🙂
Thank you very much! This will grow up the translation team motivation 😉
There’s no activity on the bulgarian forums, people use the contact form of the .org site or a user group on Facebook that Mario Peshev runs. I can try and persuade him to move that activity to the support forum though.
Dutch version is working, only problem is that we receive a lot of spam, but that is known by Remkus and caused due to the fact we run an old version of bbPress.
He already posted this on polyglots I noticed. Maybe this is caused because of an old bbPress version?
Finnish forums are running just fine and have moderate traffic.
http://fi.forums.wordpress.org/
I regularly get people posting via the contact form though for help, usually from people who think we provide wp.com support or have lost their password and think we have it for them.
@nacin will be posting an update to this, either here or at the main P2. The basic issue is that 2.4 needs a new theme, which is in development right now, and is being worked on.
Had a long chat about this with Otto at the Contributors day, but it appears that there needs to be done a lot before the actual migration to the bbPress plugin can proceed. He’s not expecting it to be done anytime soon 😦
Greek forum is not working and there is only Greek for earlier version of wordpress (3.6)
Link to Translating WordPress Handbook
http://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/handbook/
Can we each perhaps take care of a part of the handbook? Look for the info in Codex, suggest content if there’s none?
Is the handbook ready yet? If so, does it need to be translated too?
We’re working on translator’s handbook here – which needs to be written in English first.
I will start working on 2. Translating section.
I will work on poEdit, section 4.3
i want work on the 5. Local sites at .wordpress.org section.
